Zephyranthes bagnoldii ‘Pink’ seeds grow into a pink-flowered form of the Bagnold rain lily a bulbous geophyte endemic to the subtropical biome of north-central Chile. The accepted POWO name is Zephyranthes bagnoldii (Herb.) Nic.Garca, described originally by William Herbert as Habranthus bagnoldii in 1831; the species has passed through numerous genera including Habranthus, Hippeastrum, Rhodophiala and Myostemma. Named after Major Ralph Alger Bagnold (18961990), British soldier, geographer and desert explorer. The ‘Pink’ form indicates the rose-pink to deep pink flower colour variant. Flowering is typically triggered by summer rainfall the classic rain lily response. The genus Zephyranthes derives from the Greek zephyros (west wind) + anthos (flower) = ‘flower of the west wind’, named by Herbert (1821). Family Amaryllidaceae.
