Description
Zantedeschia aethiopica ‘Mr. Martin’ seeds grow into a named selection of the calla lily a tuberous geophyte native to the seasonally dry tropical biome of South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini and Mozambique. Originally described by Linnaeus (1753) as Calla aethiopica; transferred to Zantedeschia by Sprengel (1826). ‘Mr. Martin’ is a named garden selection likely distinguished by a particular vigour, flower size or habit. One of the world’s most recognised ornamental plants. Contains calcium oxalate all parts irritant if ingested. Naturalised and invasive in several regions. Important: seeds from ‘Mr. Martin’ will not breed true. Family Araceae.
Full sun to partial shade; moist to wet soils; warm subtropical to cool temperate conditions. Seeds will NOT breed true for cultivar characteristics.
