For best results, sow directly outdoors once temperatures are above 65F (18C) or start indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds 1-1/2 inches (2-3 cm) deep, spacing plants about 3 feet (1 m) apart. Water regularly to keep soil slightly moist, especially during fruit formation.

Seeds germinate in 7 to 14 days, and fruits ripen about 75 days after planting. The melon is ready to harvest when its skin becomes dull and it makes a hollow sound when tapped.
