Gardener’s Notes:In spring to midsummer, sow 3-4 seeds, 14-16 in. apart in rich, well-amended soil. Cover 1/2 in. deep. When seedlings are well established, thin to strongest single seedling. Keep well weeded and feed monthly with high nitrogen fertilizer. For transplants, start about 6 weeks early. Transplant about 2 weeks before last frost. Provide even moisture as heads are forming. Watch for caterpillars; control with non-toxic B.T.
