Basil loves heat and does not begin vigorous growth until both night and daytime temperatures have warmed in late spring. Start indoors and transplant after the danger of frost has passed, or direct outdoors in late Spring. Sow seed 6mm(1/4in) deep and 30cm (12in) apart in rows spaced 60cm (24in) apart.
