Description
Cyclamen hederifolium (Arrow Leaves) seeds grow into an arrow-leaved selection of the ivy-leaved cyclamen a tuberous geophyte native to the temperate biome from France east to Turkey and the Aegean, one of the most widely distributed and cold-hardy of all Cyclamen species. Described by William Aiton (17311793), director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. The epithet hederifolium means ‘ivy-leaved’, referring to the characteristic lobed, ivy-like leaf outline. The ‘Arrow Leaves’ selection refers to plants with an angular, arrowhead-shaped leaf outline. One of the most extraordinary Cyclamen for its flowering behaviour: the flowers emerge on bare tubers in late summer and autumn before any leaves appear, the vivid pink flowers (with a darker basal blotch) emerging first and the patterned leaves expanding only later. Two subspecies: subsp. hederifolium and subsp. confusum. Seeds from this selection will produce variable offspring in both leaf shape and flower colour. Family Primulaceae.
Partial shade; humus-rich well-drained soils; dry summer dormancy; cool temperate woodland conditions. Hardy to approximately 15C one of the most cold-hardy cyclamen. Naturalises freely under deciduous trees.

Cyclamen hederifolium (Arrow Leaves) is the ivy-leaved cyclamen one of the most cold-hardy and freely naturalising of all Cyclamen, its habit of flowering on bare soil before any leaves appear making it one of the great late-summer and autumn surprises of the woodland garden, ranging from France to Turkey in one of the widest distributions in the genus.
