Description
Carex stramentitia seeds grow into a sedge native to the subtropical biome of South Africa a typical South African member of the vast genus Carex. The epithet stramentitia means ‘straw-like’, referring to the straw-yellow or pale colour of the culms or inflorescences. A South African sedge from the grasslands, wetlands or forest margins of the Cape floristic region or the eastern South African subtropical zone. The genus Carex encompasses ~2,000 species globally, with a particular concentration in the temperate Northern Hemisphere but with numerous African representatives. Family Cyperaceae.
