Description
Brassica rapa var. cymosa ‘Fasanese Turnip Greens’ seeds grow into the Fasanese cima di rapa a traditional heirloom variety of rapini (turnip tops) from Fasano, a town in the province of Brindisi in Apulia, southern Italy. Brassica rapa var. cymosa is the cima di rapa / rapini group cultivated forms of the turnip species grown for their leafy shoots and tender flower buds rather than roots. ‘Fasanese’ indicates the variety’s origin in Fasano, a centre of traditional Apulian vegetable cultivation. This selection produces tender, lush leafy shoots with a slightly more pronounced bitter character than other southern Italian selections; used in the same traditional preparations as all Apulian cime di rapa. Family Brassicaceae.
