Description

Bauhinia purpurea ‘Variegata’ seeds grow into a variegated-flowered form of the purple orchid tree, native to the seasonally dry tropical biome of the Indian subcontinent east through Myanmar. This selection produces flowers showing a wider range of colour variation within individual blooms typically with petals of mixed or streaked purple, pink and white tones adding additional ornamental complexity to the already spectacular autumn-winter flower display. The bilobed butterfly leaves are the characteristic of the genus. Note that plants grown from seed will vary. Family Fabaceae.
