Description

Puya medica seeds grow into a terrestrial bromeliad native to the wet tropical biome of the northern Peruvian Andes from the Cajamarca region, where this product’s provenance is noted. The epithet medica means ‘medicinal’ or ‘of medicine’, indicating that this species has recorded ethnobotanical medicinal uses within its Andean range. A member of subfamily Puyoideae forming a terrestrial rosette of stiff, spiny-margined leaves on the rocky Andean slopes of northern Peru, producing tall scapes with the large tubular flowers typical of the genus. Family Bromeliaceae.
