Cichorium intybus var. foliosum ‘Red Ball Verona Chicory’ seeds grow into the Radicchio Rosso di Verona the round-headed, intensely red radicchio of Verona, one of Italy’s most commercially important and internationally recognised radicchio types, producing compact, globe-shaped heads of brilliant burgundy-red leaves with stark white midribs. Cichorium intybus L. var. foliosum is the leaf chicory group. Radicchio Rosso di Verona IGP is a protected geographical indication product of the Verona area of Veneto; its characteristic round, compact head differentiates it from the elongated Treviso types. Cold temperature triggers full red anthocyanin development and refines the bitter character. The round form makes it ideal for slicing in salads or halving for grilling. Family Asteraceae.
